Middle Eastern Türkiye (Turkey) - Tokat Block Print Prayer Mat
$400.00
Central East Anatolian hand block-printed hanging from Tokat, Türkiye (Turkey). Tokat is one of the centers of block printing art. Armenians used to do this work in the 19th century. Prayer mats such as this one were presented to one's parents after one returned from pilgrimage to the Holy Land. The colors look very saturated and natural. The base soft light yellow color is in great harmony with other colors. The Tulip is a flower that was brought to Anatolia from Central Asia in the Middle Ages by the Sälçük (Seljuk) Turks. This print features a rare design of only tulips that form a “Mihrap” – Niche with a single hanging chandelier.
