Middle Eastern İran (Persia) - Yäzd (Yazd) Silk Ikat Textile
$500.00
Silk Ikat Textile from Yäzd (Yazd), İran (Persia). Yäzd and Kaşan (Kashan) are the two main old towns of İran where silk ikats are still being woven. They were also the centers of Zoroastrianism. In fact, an eternal fire is still active in Yäzd. Kaşan used to be the silk trade center during the 18th through 19th centuries. Kaşan was also famous for its silk rugs and velvet ikats. There are a few ikat weavers left in Yäzd and Kaşan where there is a revival of velvet ikats. This piece and others like it were traditionally meant to be wall hangings rather than table covers. There is a depiction of a bursting sun in the center. It is used with a few tiny wear holes, too small to properly identify in the photos. It is very light. It must have been used as a wall hanging because it was well taken care of for its age.
Dated between the 1950s and 1960s
