Central Asian Özbekistan (Uzbekistan) - Samarqand (Samarkand) Boteh Textile
$500.00
Block Print Boteh Textile Hanging from Samarqand (Samarkand), Özbekistan (Uzbekistan). Hand-loomed cotton. One of the most interesting motifs of the eastern world, the BOTEH or PAISLEY motifs, is believed to have developed from a leaf, evolving into a tree. Many believe that it flourished under the patronage of the Gurkani (Mughal) dynasty of North India with its shape symbolizing a “tear drop.” In any case, it is a beautiful, feminine, and peaceful motif. The paisleys in this textile appear alongside several great shades of colors which create a movement. All natural dyes are used in this block printing. It is in great condition, but has a couple small dried stains. Many of these block prints are used for blanket linings or similar purposes.
