Block Printed Cotton Textile from Esfähan (Isfahan), İran (Persia). They used engraved wooden blocks for printing as well as painting with “ĞÄLÄM” which means brush in Persian and “QÄLÄM” s.m. in Arabic, both from Greek “KÄLÄMOS”. Block printing came to Esfähan from Bhärät (India) and is believed to have been brought by Mongol invaders in the 11th century. This one is missing its skirts and outer guard border. Skirts are the area where we see larger Boteh motifs. Colors are superb natural dyes and there is amazing fine workmanship on a very fine handloomed cotton. In great condition.
Dated between the 1900s and 1920s
