$475.00
Antique Qırğız (Kyrgyz) Silk Embroidered Tuş Kiyiz Fragment from Türkistan (Central Asia). This piece is missing the arms coming down on both of its sides. They use these behind their bedding walls. Very fine silk embroidery on black velvet. This is joined from the center and it has a much older Rus (Russian) roller printed cotton backing with pomegranates motifs dating to the 1900s or earlier. The Tuş Kiyiz, also referred to as a Tus Kiiz by the Qazaq, is a traditional Qırğız (Kyrgyz) textile craft. They were originally made by older women as a wedding gift to their children and grandchildren. Designs were usually cosmic and symbolized rural life in high valleys. They were traditionally silk embroidered. Nowadays, they have become very rare; since, they never became commercialized for foreigners, unlike the Şırdaq (Shyrdak).
It is dated between the 1940s and 1950s
