Middle Eastern Türkiye (Turkey) - Tokat Block Print Textile Hanging

Armenian hand block-printed hanging from Tokat, Türkiye (Turkey). Hand printed with candle motifs on the Chandler which we don’t see on Islamic drawings. Tokat is one of the centers of block printing fabrics in Türkiye. Armenians were here, doing such arts. The shape and form of the niche is unique and is more in the Christian Church window style. Christians and Muslims used to live in this town together; so, it may be a reflection of that co-existence. Such pieces are no longer made even though block printing art still goes on.

It is dated to the 1930s
