Silk Ikat Adras Fragment from Buxårå (Bukhara), Özbekistan (Uzbekistan). Adras Ikats are a mixture of 50 % silk warps and 50 % cotton wefts, which gives its body to the fabric and makes it last longer. They are usually woven 300 – 500 feet / 100 – 150 meters long. Amazing saturated colors from natural dyes. It has been put together as a pair of panels, surviving to decorate walls. We see diagonal boteh – paisley motifs. Paisley is believed to have developed in Eastern cultures evolving from a leaf into a tree. Others believe that it flourished under the patronage of the Gurkani (Mughal) Dynasty and that its shape symbolizes a “tear drop”. Paisleys are used with several great shades of colors which create the movement.
It is dated between 1870 and 1880
