Central Asian Özbekistan (Uzbekistan) - Silk Adras Ikat Panel

Silk Adras Ikat Panel from Özbekistan (Uzbekistan). The best Ikat fabric has silk and cotton mixed in equal amount. They are woven with 50 % silk and 50 % cotton so that the fabric would have a body with a longer use period. They are usually woven 300 to 500 feet or 100 to 150 meters long. Such older ikats have over 4000 silk warp yarns so that the design can be very clear. This one has a classical design from the 19th century. This one has survived as two small pieces that we have joined together on a fine cotton backing.

It is dated to the second half of the 19th century
