Central Asian Özbekistan – Tashkent School Glazed Ceramic Plate
$850.00
Central Asian Taşkent, Özbekistan school glazed ceramic large plate with talismanic verses on the sides. To be able to make such a large size clay ceramic plate by hand was a great talent and success for a potter. At the time, the turquoise colors used in the designs were known as “the color of Turks." The back side shows its age with light reddish clay which is still being used by today’s potters in Central Asia. Koranic verses must have been used for protection against anything negative and anybody who might have had evil eyes. Every house had a few of these large plates (Togora/ Langar) that were used daily to display fruits. This piece has survived in amazing condition. It will be shipped in a special wooden box.
