Central Asian Türkmenistan (Turkmenistan) - Teke (Tekke) White Chirpy Fragment
$950.00
Silk embroidered Teke (Tekke) white woman’s Chirpy fragment from Türkmenistan (Turkmenistan).
Dark blue, green, yellow, and white are the major colors of Türkmen (Turkmen) Chirpies. White ones are rarest. They are made for older respect and learned women to indicate their old age and status. The white color resembles the burial garment one wears when they reach an old age. Only respected women can wear white Chirpies. Traditional fine embroidery with some natural colors. There are some colors that may not be natural as they slightly run into one another at some places and they cannot be seen unless you inspect them very closely. It could even be the result of dripping hot water on such spots. The embroiderer must have been a master as her workmanship is similar to sampled from the 19th century. Two front parts have been finely joined. It is in great condition and reflects the beauty of fine Teke embroidery.
