Central Asian Özbekistan (Uzbekistan) - Çowdur (Chowdur) Chapan Fragment
$450.00
Silk embroidered Çowdur (Chowdur) Chapan fragment from Özbekistan (Uzbekistan). An amazing fine silk chain stitch embroidery on broadcloth. Çowdur Türkmen (Turkmen) are very famous for their silk embroidery among Tägäräk (Turkic) groups. Great saturated natural colors. It has survived this long because it was owned by a meticulous person. Images are close up and show that the workmanship is much larger than it appears. It has Adras Ikat backing that has not survived as well as the outer embroidery portions because it was constantly rubbing against other strong fabrics. One of them has slight wears in a couple of places. But, overall they are in great condition for their age.
Dated to the second half of the 19th century
