Çitral (Chitral) Kalaşa (Kalash) Headdress from Pakistan. The Kalaşa are isolated Indo-Aryan people who live in North Pakistan. It is believed by some that they are descendants of Alexander the Great’s army, a legend inspired by the fact that many of them have light complexions with blue and green eyes. Almost every woman has such a long tail headdress which is hand beaded or covered with cowry shells, buttons, metal objects and various tassels. Not many old samples survive. This one has a warp face woven background. In good condition.
It is dated between the 1970s and 1980s
