Middle Eastern Lubnän (Lebanon) - Kurd or Äräb Hand Knitted Silk Hat

Kurd (Kurdish) or Äräb (Arab) Hand Knitted Silk Hat from Lubnän (Lebanon). It is a tradition among the North Syrian Kurd tribes, as well as Arab tribes, in Lubnän to knit skull caps in this style with saturated colors. We assume this hat is from the 1930’s. It can even be even earlier. It was used and has some patina. Only the top part has some metallic yarn which possibly indicates that it was made as a dowry item. They usually have a couple single tassels hanging from the top center. This one does not have one and this may indicate that it is made for Arab and not Kurdish use; although, we don’t know for sure. Some have interesting designs with birds and region names. This one looks pretty different with colors and modern geometric textile designs.

It is dated between the 1930s and 1940s
