Central Asian Afğanistan (Afghanistan) - Embroidered Papier Mâché Hat

Embroidered Papier Mâché Hat from Afğanistan (Afghanistan). Fine metallic embroidery covers the entire surface. On the upper dome portion, it is divided into four sections with floral like embroidery. 4 is a holy number in Islam, representing the four holy books. The lining in these hats are always of old paper and they only use flour as glue, which is sacred in Islam. The lower portion has a velvet band. It also has extra lining with satin and a deep blue thin plastic band to keep the sweat away. It was used for a while and is still in very good condition.

It is dated between the 1950s and 1960s
