Central Asian Avarşahr (Hunnish Central Asia) - Elite Style Necklace
$125.00
This general necklace style was used throughout the Late Antique world, in Kuşanşahr / Avarşahr (Central Asia), Eränşähr (Persia), Rome and even Wei and Tang dynasty China. In the early Medieval period, it continued its use in Türkistan (Central Asia), Eran (Persia), Rome, the Xazar El (Khazaria), and Liao dynasty China. It was also used in the Middle East and India during these periods!
The chain, sometimes referred to as a Roman / Byzantine chain, is nowadays referred to as a Tulang Naga Chain or a Knit Double Ladder Chain. Larger versions of this chain can be seen all over murals in Central Asia and in the famous stucco figures of Gandhara. Our necklace is made of raw solid Brass. The metal spacers are also made of raw solid brass.
The Eye beads are mostly typical of the early Medieval period. In fact, this specific design was very common, especially among the Kievan Rus / Vikings. The beads are made of glass.
Finally, the Carnelian beads are sourced from the Moŋğol Uls (Mongolia).
