Middle Eastern Filästin (Palestine) - Wuqäyä (Wuqaya) Headdress with Coins

SKU TOSHH-010
Price

$750.00

The Wuqäyä (وقاية), meaning "protection," is a headdress from Filästin (Palestine) known to have been worn around the areas of Jerusalem and Ramallah. Like the Shatweh, it was a rare headdress, and not everyone had one. It was often worn by the bride, but not a married woman. Personally, this headdress is very reminiscent of the Ärcä (عرجا) headdress that is native to the Häwrän (حَوْرَان) area of Suriyä (Syria) and Urdun (Jordan). Unclear dating as there are multiple layers to this piece.
