Middle Eastern Balkan Antique Ottoman Silver Muska Amulet Necklace
SKU TOSJ-001
Price
$1,000.00
Description
Like other Central Asian Turkic peoples, Anatolian Turks also wore protective amulets with enclosed prayers or holy texts. However, while other Turkic peoples call these amulets tumar, Anatolian Turks refer to them as muska. This particular muska was, unlike most others, probably worn by a Christian Greek or Greek-speaker. It was probably made sometime during or before the 19th century in Sille. It features an Ottoman tuğra countermark.
