A silver Bedouin chain necklace with Maria Theresia coins from Filastin (Palestine). Maria Theresia was born on May 13th, 1717. She was the daughter of Emperor Charles IV and succeeded him in 1740, becoming the Queen of Hungary and Bohemia and the Archduchess of Austria. Her coins, known as Maria Theresia Talers, were the official currency of Austria until October 31, 1858. They were used as currency in large parts of Africa, the Middle East, and various Muslim regions in Central-Asia and India. These coins were restruck in Austria, Rome, London, Paris, Brussels, Bombay, and many other locations. Several hundred Million coins were struck since 1751. They are commonly used in Middle Eastern jewelry, notably in Arab jewelry.
