Middle Eastern Filastin (Palestine) - Silver Headdress Converted into a Necklace

SKU TOSJ-013
Price

$400.00

A Silver Headdress Converted into a Necklace from Filastin (Palestine). Technically speaking, this design was typical for Ottoman-era headdress components. You can see similar samples in Ottoman-era Armenian and Kurdish jewelry. However, this piece had been converted into a necklace, like many similar pieces in Ottoman-era Filastin. During the Ottoman Empire, Palestinian jewelry was typically made in cities such as Jerusalem and Nablus, sometimes by Armenians, but also imported from other regions such as Egypt. It is thought that the styles produced, however, were dependent on the tastes of villagers and Bedouin tribesmen.

It is dated to the 19th century
