Ottoman era Silver Tepelik Headdress from a Hay (Armenian) Community. The Tepelik is a Turkic ornament attached to the top of headdresses. It became a common occurrence in the Balkans, Middle East, and Caucasus during the Ottoman Empire. Many non-Turkic ethnic minorities adopted the ornament, specializing its appearance within their communities. This particular sample, while missing some pieces, is an excellent example of the variants developed by Hay communities that specialized in the filigree seen throughout this sample.
It is dated to the 19th century
