Had this tribal confederation been composed of Särbi-speakers then they would probably have been referred to as Tatar by Türük-speakers. However, the label Sekiz Oğuz implies that they were speakers of a Tägäräk, if not Oğuz language. Their Moŋğol name, Nayman, meaning "eight" was a calque of Sekiz Oğuz.
