Qıyäv

Qıyäv (Hebrew: קייב), corresponding to the modern-day Ukrainian city Kiev, was a Xazar tributary and outpost during medieval times.

Etymology

Possibly from Oğur *qɨj, a tribal name, and *äv "house; hence, the "abode of the Qıy." Qıy is an Oğur (but also Särbi) variant of the tribal name Qay. The Qay tribe had many branch tribes and clans such as: the Qayığ, the Qıtaɲ, and the Qiyad.
