Var Balığ (Chinese: 盤盤; Arabic: ورواليج, ورواليج, ولواليز), modern Qunduz (Dari: قندوز; Pashto: کندز), was an ancient city of the Yedivar.
Location
68.90, 36.78
Etymology
Var Balığ is sometimes confused with Aornos (Ἄορνος), a location once sieged by Alexander the Great. However, it is more likely derived from the Avar tribal name and Tägäräk *bɑlɨk "city;" thus, the "city of the Avars." The etymology of the city's modern name is unclear.
